ARTESAN MARKET - ALHAMA DE MURCIA

Alhama de Murcia will be holding an artesan market every third sunday of each month.
From 10am to 2pm

If you have never been to a spanish Artesan Market you should, as they appeal to all ages and even men!

These are pictures of the market held in Los Alcazares at Easter.

The Market in Alhama is held at the "Plaza de la Constitucion"

10KM RUN - MURCIA

The sporting club Runtriton is organising a run of 10km´s throughout the city of Murcia, its an urban run so practically on flat ground.

26th September  2010 at 10:00am
Starting and finishing at Pabellon Infante.
Price: 10 euros

LEMON POP FESTIVAL

As part of the Feria de Murcia,there will be the Lemon Pop Festival . This will run the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of September and entry is FREE!

Last year over 25,000 people attended. It is an Indie, pop and underground Festival.

So thought it would be an idea to write about all the water sports available to do on the Mar Menor.

RUNNING OF THE BULLS IN MURCIA

Bullfighting and the running of the bulls are something deeply rooted in Spain, It is obviously not everyones cuppa tea, but if I am going to write a blog on what to do in and around the area, then if we have flamenco we have Bull running. I hope this entry does not offend anyone.

In Spanish it is called ENCIERRO, and has been a tradition in Spain since the 14th Century, but when Hemmingway attended an ENCIERRO in Pamplona in 1920's and was so overwelmed that he wrote "The sun also rises" (which launched his career) This put Pamplona Bull running on the map.

The bulls are let loose on the streets and men run in front of them to show their bravado, quite often a few of the men get gourged or trampled on.

The most famous one is held in Pamplona, and you can see a video below.





Throughout Murcia various ENCIERROS take place on a much smaller scale to the one in Pamplona.

The town of Blanca, holds their ENCIERRO on the 13th and 14th of August 2010 from 12 o´clock .

SIERRA ESPUÑA WALKS

A superb way to get out and see the beautifully stunning Murcian landscape, nature and wildlife.

Nest walks are aimed to be sociable events not for people who enjoy scrambling up cliffs and getting puffed! Though you do need to be relatively fit as they do last from between 2-3 hours.

The cost is 5 euros and at the end of the trail everyone tends to go to a restuarant and have a typical spanish meal (not included in the 5 euros)
