BAR RESTAURANTE ESPIGARES - ROLDAN

Yesterday I went out to lunch with a friend, but the places we were going to go to were shut so we decided to try somewhere new and what a little gem we found.

BAR RESTAURANTE ESPIGARES

Is in Roldan which is the Little market town close to La Torre Golf Resort, we were greeted by the owner Cayetano Espigares Machado and taken through to the dining area.

Cayetano speaks a little English and calls himself Gary to English people. There was no menu, he told us what was available for starters, mains and puddings. In Spanish and in English.
We decided to have a salad and some ham, while we waited for the starters, The wine was brought out in a carafe, and we suspect it was homemade, as was rather nice. The beer was brought out in an iced glass.
Then came the starter, which we had chosen Meatball consome. Cayetano came and added a splash of sherry to it!
Then came our mains, chicken and chips, and beef and chips (you had a choice of all meats to pick from.

Feeling a little bit full now, but who could resist pudding? we chose icecream.
Then came the coffees and a free aperitif on the house (lemon liquer).
We paid our bill, which was as follows:
Salad: 3.00
Ham: 4.00
Wine: 1.50
Pint beer: 2.25
2x consome meatballs: 4.00
1 beef and chips: 6.00
1 chicken and chips: 5.00
bread: 0.50
Pint beer: 2.25
2x icecream: 3.50
2 white coffees: 2.50
TOTAL:           34.50

The above picture is Cayetano and his bird on his shoulder, as you can see there is also a bar area serving tapas.
It is not fancy food just good home cooking. I will be going back over and over again, great service, great food, great price.
They are open everyday and night except Mondays, and during the week they do a menu of the day for 9 euros.

How to get there? If you are coming from La Torre Golf Resort, go out the bottom entrance, turn right and then on the next roundabout turn left into Roldan, at the traffic lights turn left and then turn right just after Cajamurcia, keep going, you will see the sports pavilion coming up on your left and on your right a spare peice of waste ground, park up there, as Espigares is just on the corner. Avenida Torre Pacheco 60, Roldan. 968588001.
Enjoy (I did)

UPDATE: I have now been back various times and each time have had a superb meal and service. We have tried homemade wine from a friend of Cayetano who only makes a few bottles from his vineyard. Every time I go back it is great. What makes this little gem of a place is the Service, which is Phenomenal, the home cooked food and the reasonable prices. You should definatly try it.

UPDATE

Hello,

Sorry that there hasnt been lots of blogs over the past week, I have been on annual leave and did manage to get a few blogs done before i left to come out every other day, I managed to find a cruise from valencia with El Corte Ingles Travel, for 225 euros! yes you hear right. and no it wasnt an inflatable ship but MSC SINFONIA, we sailed from Valencia to Ibiza, then to Tunisia, sicily and Naples, where Pompei was just unbelievable, we docked into Livorno. From there we took the train to Pisa, saw the leaning tower and headed on to Venice where we spent 3 days and flew back to alicante. Adding on the flight and trains and accomodation in venice This brought it up to 450 euros. Once I get my fotos sorted will blog the trip for those of you who live here fulltime.

I arrived back last night and have had a long day at work today, so will resume blogging tommorrow. So please bear with me.
If you scroll down through my blogs you will see that the Fiestas Patronales of Torre Pacheco are still going on and lots to do.

Terrazas golf course has now opened too, I ill also blog more on that too.

As this is just done in my spare time for love not money, if any of you hear of anything on, or go to a good restaurant or place, or attend one of my suggestions, please email me fotos and details and will blog it. I can only blog what information i find on the net or see as I go about or people send to me.

MIRADOR DEL CORAZON DE JESUS

Running on from my last blog , up near the walled medieval Town of Aledo is another fantastic walk (or you can drive it). Just before you get to Aledo, you go past the Monastry of Santa Eulalia, which is now a Hotel and Restaurant, then at the next roundabout you will see the signs to get to The Mirador.

Ver mapa más grande

A is the Monastry and B is the top of the Walk.

The walk is uphill, but along the way there are white statues, each one follows the stations of the cross, Culminating when you get to the top of the hill with a huge statue of Christ open armed and absolutely stunning views down the mountain. Well worth either walking or driving up.

To see (in English) the descriptions of the "14 Stations" click here http://www.vistaverdetrails.co.uk/?stationsofthecross

If you combine going up on third sunday of the month you could go to the artesan market in Alhama before.
Enjoy :)

ESTRECHO DE LA AGUALEJA

A few kilometres from the walled medieval town of Aledo is the ESTRECHO DE LA AGUALEJA.
This is a hidden geological site, where erosion has made a magical place to go for a walk,
Seemingly if you walk carefully and pay attention you will see fosils from the sea!

How to get there, take the road from Totana to Aledo (which btw is well worth a stop, a walled medieval Town), take the turning to Noniway- RMC21, before km2 on the left is a tarmaced road which takes you to "Estrecho de Agualeja"

Ver mapa más grande

This road takes you to a picnic area and parking area, where you can leave your car and go on your walk into a forgotten stunning area.

If you combine going up on the 3rd sunday of the month, you could go to the artesan market in Alhama before

SUNDAY BRUNCH AT THE LA TORRE INTERCONTINENTAL

For those of you who yet haven´t been, I took some pictures on Sunday, because words do not describe how fantastic this is. I don´t think the pictures do it justice either, because the taste is what makes this buffet sublime.
Every Sunday from 1.30pm to 4
Downstairs in Gingko Restaurant
At the Hotel.
Cost 30 euros (drinks not included) with your Polaris card this works out at 15 euros each if 2 of you go!

There are lots of little starters on little dishes (hint, get a big plate)

Also salads, cheeses and cold meats, but do not pass the ham by as it is moorish!
For mains, there are many things but here are a few

I usually head for the Sushi chef
And this is what I had
As I have to save a place for the yummy puddings

And here was my little plate of delights
Absolutely undescribable, you must try it. If you are after a very nice white wine, try Muga.
