THE 3 KINGS
6th of January is the 3 kings. This is a big celebration in Spain. The 3 kings replace Santa Claus for spanish children, as the 6th of January is the day the 3 kings arrived in Bethlehem and gave presents to Jesus. On the evening of the 5th of January throughout Spain there are processions with the 3 kings and floats where sweets and toys are pelted into the crowds and well worth a visit for young and old alike.
SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA
Head down to Santiago de la Ribera to the beach front "Explanada Barnuevo" and at 6pm the 3 kings are shipped in by boat from across the Mar Menor, there are fireworks and a procession.
TORRE PACHECO, BALSICAS AND ROLDAN
All have 3 kings processions starting at 7pm throughout the centre
SAN JAVIER
At 6pm in the square "Plaza de España" the 3 kings celebrations will start, the townhall will be specially illuminated, there will also be a huge screen in the square with Christams carols on
There will also be giant dolls and the kings will arrive at 7.30pm.
CARTAGENA
The procession here will start at 6pm and run through the following streets: Esparta, Paseo Alfonso XIII, Juan Fernández a Juan XXIII, Sta.Florentina, Carmen, Sagasta, Puerta de Murcia, Mayor y Plaza Ayuntamiento.
MURCIA
The procession in Murcia will start at 6.30pm and run along the following streets: Paseo Corvera, Alameda Colón, Pza. Camachos, Pza. Martínez Tornel, Gran Vía Salzillo, Avda. de la Constitución, Pza. Circular, Alfonso X el Sabio y Avda. Gutiérrez Mellado.
Another tradition for the 3 kings is the eating of the "Roscon de Reyes"
In a way its like our Christmas pudding, because hidden inside the cake is a little trinket and the person who finds it in their slice is supposed to get good luck for the folllowing year, but also has to pay for the Roscon the following year!
On the 4th of January in Murcia there is a Fiesta where you can try a bit of Roscon, which is the Fiesta of the giant Roscon, and it starts at 5pm till 7pm in the Plaza San Bartolome.

BAR RESTAURANTE ESPIGARES - ROLDAN
Yesterday I went out to lunch with a friend, but the places we were going to go to were shut so we decided to try somewhere new and what a little gem we found.
BAR RESTAURANTE ESPIGARES
Is in Roldan which is the Little market town close to La Torre Golf Resort, we were greeted by the owner Cayetano Espigares Machado and taken through to the dining area.
Cayetano speaks a little English and calls himself Gary to English people. There was no menu, he told us what was available for starters, mains and puddings. In Spanish and in English.
We decided to have a salad and some ham, while we waited for the starters, The wine was brought out in a carafe, and we suspect it was homemade, as was rather nice. The beer was brought out in an iced glass.
Then came the starter, which we had chosen Meatball consome. Cayetano came and added a splash of sherry to it!
Then came our mains, chicken and chips, and beef and chips (you had a choice of all meats to pick from.
Feeling a little bit full now, but who could resist pudding? we chose icecream.
Then came the coffees and a free aperitif on the house (lemon liquer).
We paid our bill, which was as follows:
Salad: 3.00
Ham: 4.00
Wine: 1.50
Pint beer: 2.25
2x consome meatballs: 4.00
1 beef and chips: 6.00
1 chicken and chips: 5.00
bread: 0.50
Pint beer: 2.25
2x icecream: 3.50
2 white coffees: 2.50
TOTAL: 34.50
The above picture is Cayetano and his bird on his shoulder, as you can see there is also a bar area serving tapas.
It is not fancy food just good home cooking. I will be going back over and over again, great service, great food, great price.
They are open everyday and night except Mondays, and during the week they do a menu of the day for 9 euros.
How to get there? If you are coming from La Torre Golf Resort, go out the bottom entrance, turn right and then on the next roundabout turn left into Roldan, at the traffic lights turn left and then turn right just after Cajamurcia, keep going, you will see the sports pavilion coming up on your left and on your right a spare peice of waste ground, park up there, as Espigares is just on the corner. Avenida Torre Pacheco 60, Roldan. 968588001.
Enjoy (I did)
UPDATE: I have now been back various times and each time have had a superb meal and service. We have tried homemade wine from a friend of Cayetano who only makes a few bottles from his vineyard. Every time I go back it is great. What makes this little gem of a place is the Service, which is Phenomenal, the home cooked food and the reasonable prices. You should definatly try it.

CUM LAUDE BAR RETURNS - ROLDAN
Cum Laude Disco bar in Roldan Returns, If you havent been its not really a discotec, more like a bar, where people dance, there is a mix of ages, yes mostly 20´s -30's but 40's 50's and 60's are not out of place and has a great atmosfere
It is very spanish, and opens into the wee hours. When they hold events has a real vibe, the staff often get dressed up and the drinks are very cheap.
If you go onto the main street on roldan and turn down the street next to Cajamurcia onto the other main street where, el arbol supermarket is, keep going and just before a big waste area where you can park.
I will keep adding what events are on here, so keep checking in for updates.

ROLDAN AND AROUND BARS AND RESTAURANTS
The town of Roldan is so close to La Torre Golf Resort and offers an alternative to eating onsite.
There are a variety of places to eat, drink and dance.
If you exit La Torre Golf at the bottom entrance near the school and turn right and then take a left at the next roundabout.
As you come into Roldan on the right you have
TOSCANA Italian Restaurant. They serve Pizza, Pasta, meats ect.. Very reasonable and usually very busy, especially with spanish people. A Pizza, a Caprese Salad and a beer and a wine came to circa 14 euros for us. Its not fancy food, but good value and they do a great breakfast for 2 euros.
Opposite you have
GATEWAY TO INDIA which is an Indian Restaurant.
A little further down on the same side is AMIGOS, which serves good old English food, is child friendly and shows the football .
As you approach the Traffic lights you will see infront of you
CAFE DEL TIEMPO Which serves Tapas, different coffees, teas, infusions and beers.
If you turn left at the traffic lights, this is one of the main streets in Roldan and on here, there is:
GENTI DI PASTA- Which is often difficult to find but its 3 doors down from the cajamurcia bank, this is a Spanish run Italian and is a lovely little place, again, great value and good service, well worth a visit.
Then next door is a Kebab place and a Tapas bar TAPICA, opposite is the LA CERVECERIA which serves tapas and burgers and beers and have a beer garden
As you continue down this road you will find the CIVIC BAR RESTAURANT and then further along in the park is the PARK BAR a great spot for sitting on hot summer evenings with a cold beer (they serve them in ice cold glasses) serves tapas, baguettes and burgers.
Close to the Genti di Pasta restaurant, if you turn down the road next to Cajamurcia Bank, this takes you onto the next main street, which has the disco bars on it, Atrium, Cum Laude ect... but if you keep going until you see the Sports Pavilion on your left and a waste peice of ground on the right, there is a superb little spanish bar restaurant called:
ESPIGARES they serve simple home cooked spanish food, at very reasonable prices and great service. They also do a menu of the day for 9 euros. I have just found this and think its great. See my blog post for pictures, prices ect (update...have now been back 4 times and had exceptional service and food, couldnt reccomend this place highly enough)http://polarisworldandbeyond.blogspot.com/2010/10/bar-restaurante-espigares-roldan.html
Outside of Roldan you have the industrial estate on the C3319 road, where you will find:
Jaipur Palace -Indian restaurant
Alambra palace - Indian and grillhouse - with bangra dancers on saturday nights
The Wok - Chinese restaurant - with a buffet wok
Tipsy´s sports bar - Serves food, great pizzas
123 bowling alley
As you exit the resort (top entrance) and turn left, on that roundabout you will find:
Valle del sol venta and another little venta Navarro, both are very good, the little venta serves a menu del dia which is very good.
